Red Carpet Makeup

Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend

That I can’t deny

But there’s one best friend I must defend

For she can be quite shy

She deserves our praise for her clever ways

How she illuminates our day

And conceals our darkest secrets

Highlighting our forte

Her compliments are radiant

She can often make us blush

She shows us how to make an entrance

Feeling Feminine, Glamorous, Lush

There is no end to our flawless friend

And we must recognise

How her timeless classic friendship

Adds sparkle to our Sultry, Smokey Eyes

Our perfect friend can easily blend

And contour our emotions and mind

But who is this mate who transforms our state?

Leaving our cares behind

She makes us Our Most Beautiful

From Blushing Bride to WAG

Glamorous, Natural, Sophisticated

Her name is Makeup Bag!

Miss Makeup Bag will hold your hand

From first date to the races

School Proms, Weddings, Hen Parties

She’s a lady of many faces!

At Red Carpet she’s friends with the Elite

MAC, Lancôme, YSL

We only use the Finest

By Terry, Armani, Chanel

So whatever look you desire

Birthday to Elegant Ball

Step onto our Red Carpet

And give Miss Makeup Bag a call!

40th Birthday Poem

Marg, you’ve reached the big Four-0,

And so this birthday rhyme

Will celebrate your life so far

And takes you back in time…

To __ December; a new family member,

1970 was the year,

A little Christmas Fairy, for Tommy and Mary

Brought early Christmas cheer!

Days hard to beat on ______ Street

With Maria, John, Ian and Julie

A happy child, sensible and mild

Never acting unduly!

Fab at Forty, but never been naughty

In fact a goody two-shoes, I’m told

A Prefect at school, living by the rules

Always good as gold!

A sweet disposition; an aspiring musician

Marg took up playing the guitar

In the school choir, Marg never did tire

Of singing “There’s No One Quite Like Grandma”!

All passes, no fails, at St Frances De Sales

Led to a place at Broughton Hall

Where term after term, our little bookworm

Was determined to give it her all!

Marg’s guilty pleasure is her ‘made-to-measure’

A shopaholic from an early age,

Working all she could at Littlewoods

To blow all of her Saturday wage!

Our Scouse version of Kyles, experimenting with styles

Growing up, trying the latest trends

Her hair was less WOW and more 80’s T’Pau,

Unrecognisable to her friends!

Panic stricken, once caught eating chicken

Hot out of the oven one day

As Marg did allege that she was a Veg

..Some would say that’s definitely FOUL play!

Marg took great pains pulling pints at Cains

Back in ’93 when hired,

By Wiggy and Griff and good friend Nik

Although her skills left a lot to be desired!

Next at the Croc, Marg hid her shock

I’m surprised we didn’t appal,

In our messy state, meeting our new mate,

The party girls of Childwall!

Well, we didn’t offend, as our new found friend

Joined us on a jaunt to Falaraki

To party and revel, although Lynsey’s Breville

Still made Marg question if we were tacky!

Marbella was funny, running out of money

When we couldn’t spend the euro any faster,

To economise, we cooked up a surprise,

…Tomato soup to top our pasta!

Dressed as sexy Robin, the fellas hearts were throbbin’

In Marbella, on Christina’s hen do

And at the Dubai Cup, the jockey’s were all fired up

At Marg, the Man Magnet, it’s true!

With the girls, globetrotting the world,

Plenty of laughter and tears,

We’ve made memories galore and I’m sure there’ll be more,

As we roll on down the years!

So, if there’s one thing you take, from this birthday keepsake

Then Margaret please let it be this:

You’re a friend so true, and we all love you

Here’s to you, our Little Miss Chris!

So a BIG ‘Congratulations’,

Let the celebrations start

Please raise your glass, to a lady who’s world class

And forever young at heart!!

Through Ellen's Eyes - A Celebration of John Lennon's Life

Dedicated to my Mum xxx

THROUGH ELLEN'S EYES

Mum was cleaning in the kitchen
She smashed a plate in disbelief
Wiped the suds onto her dressing gown
And ran upstairs to share her grief.

The radio broke it to him
Dad already knew
I didn’t feel their pain that day
For I was barely two.

Can forty lines of poetry
Condense forty iconic years?
And celebrate a legend,
A legend to his peers.

John Winston Ono Lennon
Requires no introduction
Musician, peace activist, artist
No manufactured production.

Her ‘Favourite Beatle’ my Mum says.
‘Loved him’, she quietly sighs.
“The words were almost irrelevant”
To the crystal memories in her eyes.

I listen to regaled anecdotes
‘Beatle mania’ in Liverpool.
Front page of the Echo
Mum pictured ‘sagging’ Sacred Heart School.

To welcome home her heroes
A Castle Street homecoming joy
‘It was worth the reprimand’
To see her Nowhere Boy.

I begin to realise her honour
To be part of this privileged history.
‘Chapman was a madman,
The world’s eighth mystery’.

A Mersey pride has grown inside
And I truly appreciate
The landmarks our friends flock to
Penny Lane, Mendips, Strawberry Fields gate.

But most of all I’ll remain grateful
For many years to come
To see history through different eyes,
….Ellen’s eyes, not Mum.

Supplier Spotlight: For Better Or Verse

A HUGE 'thank you' with cherries on the top to Heidi of An Affair to Remember Events for featuring FBoV in her Supplier Spotlight!

Supplier Spotlight: For Better Or Verse

"For this week’s supplier spotlight, Helen of For Better or Verse has written a bit about what it means to have personal touches included in your wedding which is something that I completely agree with. Her beautiful poetry is a creative way to make give your wedding a personal touch.

For Better or Verse – Bespoke Special Occasion Poetry

po•em (pō’im) n.
1. Piece written in verse
2. Writing with poetic effect
3. Beautiful of delightful thing
Something particularly lovely, beautiful or delightful…

“Personality is the glitter that sends your little gleam across the footlights and the orchestra pit into that big black space where the audience is.”
Mae West – actress.

Approaching our first year anniversary this weekend (29th August), I’ve been reminiscing lately just how wonderful our wedding day really was. I’m often asked if there is anything I would change in hindsight, and the answer is always a BIG.FAT.NO. ‘Wonderful’ is actually an understatement. The wedding was an elegant-romantic-oh-so-perfect-fairytale day! And I’m quite certain the reason it was so successful was because I religiously stuck to my mantra of Personalisation is Key! Weddings have really evolved over the last decade, and there are so many ideas and options out there to ensure you create the most perfect, personal day. But how personal is personal?! It is quite possible you may select the same theme, décor, dress or cake as other brides; something your guests may have already experienced.
So, how do you set your wedding day aside from all the rest?

A unique way to truly personalise your day and give your guests an insight into your romance is with a bespoke, personal poem about your relationship. There will, of course, be your nearest and dearest attending your day, and quite possibly some guests who are not so close. So giving ALL guests an insight into you, your day, your celebration, is a perfect way to involve everyone and create that je ne sais quoi atmosphere you’ve been dreaming of.

A special, bespoke poem about your own love story, from first date to proposal, could be recited in a speech, given as a wedding party gift, place setting or favour. My hubby proposed in December 2008, so as a Valentines’ gift two months later, I penned him a poem entitled ‘The Proposal’ which we gave each guest as a place setting.

They are perfect ice-breakers guaranteed to make your guests laugh AND cry! Ideal for any Best Men, Father’s of the Bride or indeed Grooms’ (or Brides?) nervous of public speaking, wanting to deliver an eloquent, heartfelt, sincere speech with a double dose of humour!

So why not let For Better or Verse add a touch of magic to your special occasion and tell your beautiful story in rhyme?

Verse of the Day

A Divine Image by William Blake

Cruelty has a human heart,

And Jealousy a human face;

Terror the human form divine,

And secrecy the human dress.

Italian Wedding - July 2010

Sample (14 verses)

1
Welcome to this wedding celebration,
Here today, at Don Pedro
To celebrate their new life; Dean and his beautiful ’wife’,
The ‘former’ Miss Amy Devereux!

2
Congratulations to the newly-weds,
Please join me in a toast,
To the new Mr. and Mrs. Cannon,
On the exquisite Amalfi Coast!

3
On behalf of both our newly-weds,
Accept their welcome; warm and hearty
To guests who’ve travelled near and far…
Or from the ‘Conca Party’!!!!

4
A special mention to Carol and Eileen, the two fantastic Mums,
I hear Carol narrowly missed the church today,
Limbering up in Legs, Bums and Tums!!!!

5
It’s a love story so true, of a young Amy-Lou
Who was swept off her feet, aged fifteen
By a guy who just knew, they’d one day say “I do”….
The start of Amy and Dean!!!!

6
They shared their first embrace, at the ‘East Lancs’ Showcase
On 8th January ‘99
To see ‘Enemy of the State’, although they left at half eight….
For Amy’s curfew was 9pm!!!!!

7
In their early courting days, they were set in their ways
And wined and dined on Old Hall Street
But were soon impressed, by the Albert Dock’s ‘Est Est Est’….
And swopped chicken nuggets for olives and meat!

9
Last year in Dubai, there wasn’t a dry eye
Exactly 10 years from their first date.
Dean knelt before Amy-Lou, and said “I love you,
…I think 10 years is long enough to wait”!!!!

10
He turned to his ‘belle’ in the Ritz Carlton hotel
And asked “Will you marry me”?
This young firefighter, knew how to ignite ‘er,
As Amy’s answer is plain to see!!!!!

11
A flash limousine, arrived at the scene,
As Amy admired her ring, so prettily
She had now bagged her man and was starting to plan
Her dream wedding in Sorrento, Italy!

12
Two smiling faces, arrived at Dubai races,
And with family, they shared their delight
Betting and bubbles, toasted the happy couple
As they danced long into the night!!
